Oooh there are SO many. I usually stick to Manhattan and the Bronx (because I live in Manhattan and ain’t about to attempt to travel to Brooklyn or Queens on Marathon Sunday). Here’s some of my fave crews and top spots:
OMRC - Wherever they happen to position themselves in Manhattan (usually somewhere on the East Side high up 1st Ave around mile 18 or 19)
NoName Project - Half way into the mile that you’re in the Bronx, on Morris Avenue (before you get to Western Beef)
Boogie Down Bronx Runner - Under the underpass before you cross the Harlem River
WRU Crew - My personal favorite as it’s the Nike spot - and I’ve trained been trained by Nike’s Project Moonshot for at 3 of my marathons, so it’s stacked with alum to support the runners who you’ve trained with.
The Bandstand at E110th and 5th - this is just before people get into the 5th Avenue climb. It’s a great spot to get to, always has live music, and you can easily access the bathrooms in the park should you need them.
Halfway up 5th Avenue - Runners definitely need support here. In the past I’ve joined informal cheer squads there.
Which cheer zone should I join??
